Behind the Name
It took us almost a year of thinking up names before we finally came up with one that we really liked. But when we finally hit on it we knew it was perfect for this place…
Yes, a year is a long time to struggle over something as simple as a name, but we wanted a name that meant something, stood for something, had some substance.
What’s so special about the name you ask? Well first, it has the word buffalo in it and that brings up thoughts of older times. Thoughts of when America was a lot younger and wild, open to exploration, brimming over with adventure. The Wild West, immense stretches of prairie land, Native American Indians, early American settlers struggling to make a better lives for themselves; the buffalo symbolizes all these things and more.
Running Buffalo means something else too; it’s the name of an endangered native plant. A specific type of clover once common in the American prairies until the drastic decline of the buffalo in the late 19th century, Running Buffalo Clover had a symbiotic relationship with the buffalo. Like the buffalo, it came very close to extinction, but thankfully is coming back in a few protected areas.
So you see, this cabin’s name has a couple meanings and we think we chose well. We hope you do too.
